ACTIVITY: CLASS PANCHAYAT

Panchayati Raj Day is celebrated on April 24th every year in India to commemorate the passing of the Constitution (73rd Amendment) Act, 1992, which led to the establishment of Panchayati Raj institutions in India. To celebrate this day, the students of Class XI at Ahlcon International School decided to simulate the functioning of a Gram Panchayat by dividing themselves into a Sarpanch, five Panchs, and the rest of the students representing the Gram Sabha of a fictional town called Dholakpur.

The class was divided into three groups. The first group consisted of the Sarpanch and the five Panchs, who were responsible for proposing and implementing policies for the development of the town. The second group represented the Gram Sabha, who were responsible for providing feedback and suggestions to the Sarpanch and the Panchs. The third group acted as observers, who monitored and analysed the decision-making process.

The Sarpanch and the Panchs were given hypothetical situations such as intercaste marriage, personal conflict, water scarcity, and disparity between rich and poor, which they had to address using their collective wisdom and the feedback from the Gram Sabha. The decisions made by the Sarpanch and the Panchs were then presented to the Gram Sabha for approval.

The celebration of Panchayati Raj Day was a great learning experience. The simulation exercise helped the students understand the importance of Panchayati Raj institutions and their role in the development of rural India. 2022-2023

Interaction with the Federal Chancellor of Germany

The date 25th February,2023 will always remain special for me as I got the golden opportunity of meeting the Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Olaf Scholz when he visited Fab café, Sunder Nursery for an informal interactive session with a younger, informed audience.

Meeting and interacting with the Federal Chancellor was a once in a lifetime experience, which was possible because of my teachers and my school AIS (Ahlcon International School). As a school student, it was a wonderful and different exposure. There were people from different fields, age groups and even different states of India like UP, Rajasthan etc invited by the German Embassy for the session. The Chancellor seated on a high chair in the beautiful ambience of the Fab cafe, very deftly handled all the questions raised by the audience ranging from topics as wide and diverse as climate change, feminist policies, protection of forest cover, art and history, energy conservation, education in Germany, labour shortage, SDGs etc. He enthralled the crowd with his answers. The picturesque and serene location only added to the charm. Due to shortage of time, all the questions could not be catered but the Chancellor tried his best to cover all the aspects. The session further augmented the healthy Indo-German relationship.

It was also fun shooting the actual videos as well as the bloopers at Goethe Institute, Max Mueller Bhavan. In the video I shared my experience of the interaction with the federal Chancellor and how excited and yet nervous I was before the grand event. We recorded in both the languages English and German.

It was a truly intriguing and informative event. I am ever grateful to my School and my teacher and Goethe Institute for this glorious learning opportunity.

REPORT- PARIKSHA PE CHARCHA LIVE STREAMING

Ahlcon International School, on 27th January 2023, got imbued with curiosity and zeal on the occasion of the Sixth edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha which was being held at New Delhi's Talkatora Stadium. This annual event, which was enunciated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the year 2018 as a larger movement - ‘Exam Warriors’, was hailed by all the students.

The live streaming of the Prime Minister's commendable efforts towards creating a stress-free atmosphere for youngsters was watched and held in high regard in the school auditorium, at the reception and in the classrooms across the entire Senior Section.

Importance of time management for examinations was highlighted with intriguing examples by the honorable Prime Minister. Students were asked to observe the most inspiring figure of family, i.e. the mother, as she is adept at managing the house and family. The most haunting question about the family's expectations, which stumbles the students' motivation to study with all the diligence, was humbly answered aptly by the highly revered Prime minister. He pacified the students by saying that it's normal for the family to have expectations but they should not make it a matter of social status. The students who use their creativity for 'cheating' in examinations should use their time and creativity in a good way to achieve heights of success. Also, hard working students are extremely affected by others doing cheating so students should abstain from using unfair means. He also brought forth the pertinence of doing hard work smartly. These illuminating repository of mantras to beat exam stress, motivated the students to identify their strengths and interests and also help them celebrate exams. Students enthusiastically look forward to another edifying session of Pariksha Pe Charcha in the coming months alongside taking vibrant insights from this one.

Mussoorie Trip-Report

A panoramic view of the snow-capped mountains in the 'Queen of Hills', adrenaline-charged adventure sports at Dhanaulti; far far from the madding crowds in the fragrant Company Bagh, and the most impeccable service at the Country Inn are some of the most cherished memories that the Ahlconites carried back from a school trip to Mussoorie.
The trip was organised for the students of Class XII from 5th June - 7th June 2016. The seats were limited and the craze to go together with their batchmates one last time, witnessed high drama even before the trip. The last minute entry of Tanishks lent that extra charm to the trip.
We started on our journey quite early in the morning, stopped at Cheetal Grand for breakfast and then pushed on eager to reach our destination, the Country Inn.

But the 'Queen' had some other plans as we had to take a long detour from Dehradun to reach Mussoorie. Though exhausted but the rain that welcomed us in Mussoorie, rejuvenated the entire group. The students happily undertook a trek to the parking lot from where we were picked up by the hotel staff where a sumptuous lunch awaited us.

On 6th June, the students had an exciting morning at Dhanaulti adventure camp trying out Burma Bridge, rock rappelling, zip line and many more adventurous activities. Maggi had never tasted so good as it did in the mountains. In the evening, we visited Company Bagh and from there trekked our way to the Mall for shopping.
Next day ,7th June as we bid a fond adieu to the 'Queen', we visited Forest Research Institute, a premier institute in the field of forestry research in Dehradun. Amidst all the bonhomie, we reached Delhi, carrying back beautiful memories of the 'QUEEN'. Adieu

Singapore Sojourn by Ahlconites

A journey in a group has many stories to tell. Standing by its motto of “Global Perspective and Indian Values”, Ahlconites in this summer vacation went on a sojourn to experience the best facilities of an Asian hub of education- Singapore. With 20 students and three teachers, an educational cum leisure trip started with appreciation for Singapore Changi Airport which is consistently voted the world's best airport.
During the 5 days trip, we covered Singapore's Night Safari,  the world's first nocturnal safari park that showcases more than 2,500 animals in their natural night time habitats, Sentosa Island that has many recreational activities and offers more with an Observation Platform, a Butterfly Park, an Oceanarium, a 4-Dimensional theater and an adventure park.
Students also got a chance to visit Merlion Park, where a bizarre hybrid of a lion and fish is placed. The Merlion's body, as an ambassador of Singapore, represents its humble roots as a fishing village. Its head represents Singapore's original name, Singapura, or "lion city" in Malay.
Students also visited NAFA (Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts) to learn about the vocational courses offered by the institute. The most striking feature of their education curriculum observed by us is that kindergarten students can pursue any fine arts course like music or art and become experts. A workshop on 3D-design by one of the professor, Chew Han Lim from fashion studies was an eye-opener for many students as he gave them an activity to relate geometry with design.
A visit to SP Jain Centre of Management on the same day was organized for the students to understand the global business nuances. Interaction with head of Admission, Ms. Rashmi Udaykumar and a business English professor worked as step towards exploration and career decision making.
To sum it up, the students as well as teachers got a chance to learnt about the diversity of a new country and expand their horizons in global understanding.

National Conclave on “Child Rights, Safety & Wellbeing”

Expressions India has always succeeded in inspiring the youth to “Arise, Awake and Stop not until the goal is achieved” so much so that in every summit that we participate in, the expectations rise and moreover the energy and enigma to again prove our presence as the youth touches new heights. The National Conclave of Students on child rights, safety and well-being was no different. Once again the Ahlconites weaved the same magic at the National Conclave of Students on “Child Rights, Safety & Well Being on 23rd April, 2016 at National Science Centre, Delhi. Students from 25 schools all over Delhi   & NCR arrived with excitement and a massive sense of establishing themselves as the torch bearers of this wonderful nation. And the way these thoughts and energy were depicted on the stage, we had no choice but to be mesmerized by the sheer virtue of professionalism and sensitivity that was showcased on the stage. Empowered by competitions on Street Play, Jingle, paintings and Elocution on some of the most sensitive problems that this nation is facing at this point of time. The conclave provided a phenomenal platform to the students in the veils of competition to present their views on these problems and present their ways of creating a revolution. Apeksha Rai of IX A, won third prize in the elocution Competition. The leading body for protection of child rights, i.e., NCPCR (National Commission for Protection of Child Rights) also enlightened the students about issue and solutions regarding the problems faced by children like malnutrition, sexual harassment, child labour etc. National Conclave in all was another fascinating experience bestowed upon us and all the participating students of Ahlcon bow our heads in gratitude for this incredible honor.

These are some skills everybody needs throughout their careers and lives as a whole, and MUN conferences give an opportunity to practice these while one is still a student.
The hard work bore fruit and the school delegation bagged six prizes in different categories, and above that, explored their roles as global citizens, not only learning about the problems in the society, but actually actively working to find concrete solutions to eradicate them.

VISIT TO PEARL ACADEMY

We, at Ahlcon International School, believe that the need of the hour is to design our curriculum in such a way that breaks the monotony of rote learning and captivates the heart and interests of young learners. We provide them with a plethora of opportunities which appeals to them aesthetically. Keeping this in mind; on 7th May 2016 we organised a visit for Senior Section students to Pearl Academy, an accredited and accomplished institute which is one of India’s leading college in fashion, design, and business. Forty one students accompanied by our counsellor Ms. Chetna and club Incharge, Ms. Neenu went to the annual exhibition “Portfolio” where the graduating students of the elite academy showcased their skills, flair and talent in the form of their final projects which were manifested in the event. The myriad of projects ranged from elaborate photography, to exquisite dress designs to models of art and painting created painstakingly. Students were also given the golden opportunity to attend an assortment of workshops on themes varying form Calligraphy to Texture creation to Product and Fashion designing. It was an excellent and extraordinary experience for all the students and teachers who thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition and the activities. We express our gratitude to honourable Principal Sir, Puneet Sir and Chetna ma’am to provide us with such a chance to enhance our knowledge and explore various spectres of education.

Entrepreneurship: The future of India

Ahlcon has always pioneered the ideas of giving the best possible opportunities to their students. Career Education and the core skill development are the key concerns which the country is facing and the way forward is to start early. With this thought in mind, an interactive session was organized by the school counselor, Ms. Chetna Sabharwal on 22nd April, 2016 in the school auditorium, with one of the youngest entrepreneur of India, Ms. Shabnam Aggarwal, CEO and CTO, Kleverkid. She has worked as the Strategic Partnership Manager at Pearson, she has been invited to guest lecture in IIT & IIIT Delhi, and she acts as an advisor to Eneza Education and Atma NGO. From a Business Analyst at Merrill Lynch to the CEO at KleverKid she is distinguished for being a tireless worker, a passionate ideator, and an innovative thinker.

With a warm welcome by Incharge-Senior Section, Mr. Puneet, she enlightened the students with her life story and how the struggle and failure were two important lessons to be a successful entrepreneur. When asked about her mentor, she expressed her gratitude to our Principal, Mr. Ashok Pandey for giving her the opportunity to interact with the parents and understand the need of the market and guiding her further to start her venture. The inquisitive students of grade 11 & 12 were keen to know the various aspects of her business and the session in totality was an engrossing one. To strengthen our association with her, an internship programme was also proposed during the interaction where our students can work as summer interns with her.

A session with King’s College London

Choosing a career path, making a career decision, or deciding on a college major - all are critical decisions. They demand exploring all the options, evaluating them and the high-quality decision making comes into foray. To guide our students in the right direction, a session on “How to write a competitive Application” was organized on 27th April, 2016 in the school conference room for the students who are keen to make their mark in the global environment by the school counselor, Ms. Chetna Sabharwal in collaboration with King’s College London. Our guest of the day was Dr. Peter Chetwynd, International Admission officer, who was welcomed by Mr. Puneet, Incharge-Senior Section and Ms. Chetna. A memento to express our gratitude was also presented to him. Dr. Peter discussed about the myths associated with education abroad especially UK and how the process of application is different from other countries. A step by step process of application in UK and what to avoid was also discussed. Participating students enquired about the possible scholarships, post study visa opportunities etc at King’s and the best way to showcase a holistic profile during the application. To sum it up, the session was an eye-opener for many of the participants and they expressed their interest in studying in King’s after the virtual campus tour through the presentation by Dr. Peter.

A Workshop on
Self-Awareness & Peer Influence
“But the Lord said unto Samuel, look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I’ve refused him: for the Lord seeth not as the man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the lord looketh on the heart.” Pouring the idea of this Biblical verse on the minds of Ahlconites, a workshop was organized in the school on 7th April’ 2016 in the school conference room to eradicate such negative views. The resource persons for the session were Ms. Diana and Ms. Shelja from “School of life” All the girls of ninth standard took active interest in the various discussions and activities held at the workshop which marked an end to the hunt of answers to the questions every teenager looks for.

The one-hour workshop focused upon the ill-mentality and stereotypes emerging in the society regarding the way people usually judge others on the basis of how they look. Moreover, it was a great initiative to discuss these kind of problems faced at this age when girls are unable to deal with such issues. These remarks and comments usually end up in whisking away their confidence as more than them, they start belonging to the society, to the social evils.

Students took part in the stirring activities with utmost vigor. They were given a couple of tasks or questions which actually marked an eye-opening experience for children. The whole message was conveyed to the students in a very catchy way using examples of celebrities, real life situations and above all, the experiences of the students themselves. We were given a very comfortable platform to the girls where they felt free to keep their opinions in front of all. Many came up with their problems and experiences about how they responded when they had to face these kinds of comments on their outlook. This certainly made it more interesting and easier for the students to think beyond outer beauty and analyze the current situations of their minds.
The diligent efforts of our counselor, Chetna ma’am and the zealous response from the students made this initiative successful. The vivacious Ahlconites exited with their hearts beating with the beats of change and with a more honed mind than that which entered the hall.
